Is there any hope for my old NES from 1985?

I just found my old NES outside by my garage. MY classic Gaming system that i played on when i was 5 :((( It was out in the open and im guessing has lots of water damage, tho its not that rusty. I also had about 20 game paks and they dont look to bad either. I dont have an adapter cord for it. THe last time i played with it 5-6 years ago it wasnt working to well. Is it ruined for sure now???? is there anypoint in buying an adapter for it to check it out??? If it doesnt work im going to turn the controllers into a wallet and the NES into a Lunch box or something...but if theres any chance for it im not going to take it apart. Is my NES dead forever????
